Del Oro Mural Project
3/29 - John Pugh, on behalf of the Del Oro Mural Committee proudly unveiled his mural design to a packed house at the Del Oro Theatre Thursday evening. The first of what could be many fundraisers for the project to raise $70,000 featured appetizers by SPD Market, Tofanelli’s Gold Country Bistro and Quiznos Subs with beverages provided by Lucchesi Winery, Sierra Star Winery, Burch Hall Winery and Wolaver's Organic Ale. The evening started with great live music by the Banner Mountain Band followed by the viewing of a companion video to John Pugh's new coffee table book, "The Murals of John Pugh - Beyond Trompe L'Oeil" written by Kevin Bruce. John Pugh then took the stage and narrated a slide show that included various projects that he has painted with the finale being the Nevada County inspiration for, and the unveiling of the De Oro Mural Design. The design features hard-rock miners descending into a mine on one side with the Yuba River cascading a river of hearts down the other side. The hearts are a reference to the original Del Oro mural featuring a large heart representing Grass Valley as the "Heart of the Gold Industry". The project is slated to start late summer with a completion date possibly by the following Spring. John is a nationally recognized Trompe L’oil artist focusing primarily on mural paintings. Examples of John’s past work can be found on his website at www.illusion-art.com.
